BARNSLEY GREYHOUND STADIUM
This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for helping to construct this page. |
The independent flapping track in the Yorkshire town of Barnsley was located at Dillington Park with grid reference 1° 28' W 53° 32' N. The grid reference of the track on Highstone Road was SE3405. Racing began on the sand track in 1938,with sprint races over 240 metres, intermediate races over 368 metres and standard races over 462 metres. |
The track was well supported, racing twice weekly, with mid-week meetings taking place on Wednesdays, and weekend meetings on Saturday evening. The track buildings were destroyed by a fire in 1990 and the track never reopened. |
I am grateful to Jon Seddon for the following link to a map showing the whereabouts of the old track |
This section gives a comprehensive picture of
the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of
glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend
a visit to http://astore.amazon.co.uk/wwwgreyhoundd-21 where further reading can be undertaken. |
